Learning disorders in children encompass alterations of any of the basic cognitive processes that affect the way the brain processes information. Usually manifest as a deficit only in very specific areas such as writing, reading or calculation. Children with these disorders, have a lower school performance although most of them have a normal or above average intelligence. The main specific developmental learning disorders usually affect perception, emotions, speech, reading and writing, attention, and motor coordination and activity. Therefore, it is important to diagnose the problem early in order to avoid further complications in the development of children and implement a pedagogic intervention based, by coordinating physical, psychological or speech therapists therapy treatment, as appropriate.
