Alopecia

Specialty of Dermatology

Alopecia is the excessive hair fall which causes baldness. It is caused by three main factors, which are genetic inheritance, age, and male hormones. It is usually triggered by the presence of high doses of dihydrotestosterone in the blood, which in women is found in small quantities, so it is a disorder that affects mostly men. For alopecia, the treatment may vary upon the root causes ( androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata, or caused by stress or other disorders). Anyway, the most common treatments include nutritional supplements or both systemic drugs ( finasteride ) and topical use ( minoxidil, lotions and preparations). In some cases, patients also opt for hair transplantation.
