Testicular biopsy is a small surgery done in the testis. In this surgery a piece, very small, testicular tissue is removed. This tissue contains the seminiferous tubules from which will be obtained sperm.

testicular biopsy The method for obtaining spermatozoa is very careful, since inside the seminiferous tubules sperm coexist with other cell types that may hinder viewing the same. This, plus the fact that in these situations, there are usually few mature and low sperm mobility, give the process the need for expertise and experience.

When a testicular biopsy performed?

Testicular biopsies for reproductive reasons, are done when a man has no sperm in their ejaculate or have his sperm with a high rate of DNA fragmentation, although the latter situation there are different possible solutions.

The possibility of finding sperm in the testis depends on the cause that caused the lack thereof in the ejaculate, so it is important to have a proper study of man, before indicating biopsy.

Those situations in which the cause of the absence of sperm in the ejaculate is the presence of an obstruction caused well as in the case of vasectomy or spontaneous, and congenital absence of the vas deferens or other, the possibility of finding sperm is high.

Nonobstructive situations are more delicate, in them there fewer sperm in the testis, but even so, its realization is indicated because the procedure can have not only therapeutic but also diagnostic connotations.

Considerations before a testicular biopsy

They must fully inform the patient of the possibilities that exist in their case before a biopsy performed. Professionals must ensure that you understand the procedure. You should also consider the need for a reproductive technique for fertilization of eggs from your partner. This technique is the micro sperm injection (ICSI).

Taken these considerations into account, you must know that it is the only option that exists for the birth of a baby genetically his.
